Overview

Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, located near a senior residential community of 8,000 residents, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Music Director to lead and grow our parish music ministry. This part-time position is an integral member of the pastoral team, responsible for enhancing worship through high-quality liturgical music and fostering a prayerful and engaging musical environment for our primarily senior congregation.

Key Responsibilities

Accompany Liturgies:
Play piano and organ for three weekend Masses:• Saturday at 4:00 PM
• Sunday at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM

Music Planning:
Select and/or arrange appropriate liturgical music for weekend Masses and special liturgical celebrations, including Holy Day liturgies, such as Christmas, the Triduum, and so forth.
Collaborate with the pastor and liturgy team for planning. -
Choir Leadership:
Lead and develop the Adult Choir through weekly rehearsals (currently Thursdays 2:00–3:30 PM) throughout the year except July and August when the choir is off. Communicate regularly with the choir via email.
Conduct the choir while accompanying when needed. -
Cantor Coordination:
Recruit, train, schedule, and support cantors for liturgies. -
Possibility of playing for funeral masses and sacramental liturgies, as needed. Meet with the families to assist in the selection of music and readings. Arrange for a cantor as requested. Additional compensation is provided for funerals and sacramental liturgies.

Instrument and Music Library Oversight:
Tend to the maintenance of musical instruments (two pianos and organ) and manage the choral music library. -
Administrative Duties:
Develop the music ministry budget, including building relationships with local instrumentalists for major liturgies.
Ensure copyright compliance and licensing.
Maintain diocesan and legal standards. -

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Music (minimum).

Proficient in piano and organ; versatile in liturgical styles, including traditional and
contemporary church music.

Strong choral conducting skills.

Strong vocal skills.
-
Able to conduct while accompanying on keyboard.

Skilled in arranging choral and possibly instrumental music in the future.

Knowledge of Catholic liturgy and calendar.

Preferred practicing Catholic.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a pleasant disposition with
the ability to work as a pastoral team member.

Independent and collaborative work ethic.

Passionate about liturgical music and faith inspiration.

Emotionally mature, flexible, organized, and sense of humor.

Talented in affirming the gifts of a small volunteer senior choir.
